PolyHalogen Compounds Uses And Side Effects

The compounds in which more than one halogen atom is present are called polyhalogen compounds.

Some of these compounds are very useful for agriculture and industries.

Example Dichloromethane (Methylene Chloride) = CH₂CI₂

Side Effects - Methylene Chloride damages the central nervous system of humans.

Hearing and visual abilities are reduced even if there is a small amount of methylene chloride in the air.

 Due to the effects of an overdose, effects such as dizziness, vomiting, numbness in the fingers of hands and feet, etc.

Due to this skin irritation occurs. Its direct contact with the eyes can cause corneal burns.

Uses- Methylene chloride has various side effects, but it has the following uses

(i) as a solvent and to remove paint

(ii) in metal cleaning. 

(iii) in drug manufacturing

(iv) as a propellant in aerosols.
